Optional Tour: Kuangsy Waterfall Tour

After travelling a short distance from town to the stunning Kuang Si Waterfalls, bathe beneath the flowing water, as it cascades over a series of calcified tiers and down several metres into the refreshing turquoise pools below. Following your swim, visit the Sun Bear Reserve, a conservation centre that rescues the endangered sun bears that are native to Southeast Asia from the devastating wildlife trade.

Optional Tour: Whisky Village and Pak Ou Buddha Cave

Visit Ban Xang Hai, where visitors witness the process of making the nation-wide beloved lao-Lao, also known as Lao Rice Whisky. Ban Xang Hai is an original village situated in Luang Prabang, where the production of lao-lao is situated. Additionally, the village is known as a weaving village, showcasing a series of handcrafted textiles. After visiting Ban Xang Hai, take a drive to the Pak Ou Buddha cave, a historical landmark filled with over four thousand Buddhist icons. This landmark is very important to the Buddhist communities of Laos, respectfully embrace the grandness of this place of worship.

After your morning breakfast, relax with your partner for the first half of the day, or take part in an optional experience, before being collected in the early evening and embark on a sunset cruise along the Mekong river. Relax in the light of the setting sun onboard the traditional wooden boat, as you float down the mighty river gazing at the verdant Lao countryside. Capture this experience of your honeymoon, lit by the romantic aura of the ‘golden hour’. Savour the experience before delighting in some succulent food at a romantic dinner at an inner-city restaurant.

Optional: Bamboo Experience

Explore the many uses of the ubiquitous bamboo plant with this interesting half-day experience in Northern Laos. Travel to the Bamboo Experience Centre, a local family-run business on the outskirts of Luang Prabang. This facility aims to preserve local culture and traditions whilst promoting responsible tourism through unique experiences. Amidst lush rice fields and verdant hills, be welcomed by your friendly hosts. Start the experience with a hands-on bamboo weaving workshop; create a personal souvenir utilising this traditional method that has been passed down for generations. Understand the importance of the bamboo in Laos culture, before participating in an interactive cooking class, preparing tasty dishes with the multifaceted plant. Get comfortable on the bamboo mats and indulge in the freshly prepared meal – Laotian-style – whilst soaking up the tranquil atmosphere of the serene countryside. The journey into the world of bamboo is rounded off with a show by a local Hmong group, performing traditional songs and dances while using bamboo instruments and utensils. On the way back to the hotel, reflect the fun and immersive experience, which not only provides invaluable insights into the culture of rural Laos but illuminates the incredible versatility of the bamboo plant.

After breakfast at your hotel, a guide and driver will pick you up at the lobby and transfer to airport for your flight to Vientiane. Upon arrival at Vientiane airport, you will be transferred to your hotel by another guide. Spend the rest of the day at your own leisure, getting a head start on your exploration of the city or savouring your excursion energy for the following day.

Begin a whirlwind tour starting at Wat Sisaket, Vientiane’s oldest-surviving monastery featuring over one thousand statues of Buddha. Discover the history behind Hor Pha Keo, a former temple which was razed to the ground, not once but twice, by an invading ancient Thai army. Witness the glorious Pha That Luang, a national symbol of Laos represented on both the national seal and national currency. Marvel at the grand stupa covered gold leaf and surrounded by thirty smaller stupas. In addition, admire the impressive hand painted frescos that adorn the internal walls. Climb to the viewing platform of Patouxai, Vientiane’s very own arc de triumphe. The landmark presents a window into the French colonial history of the region. Embrace the local Lao cuisine as you enjoy in your complimentary lunch at a local restaurant.

After breakfast, utilise your last day in Laos before the guide picks you up and transfer you to the airport.

Optional: Half Day Buddha Park

Participate in a great tour discovering the weird, wonderful and quirky statues of Buddha Park just 25kms outside of Vientiane. The park is the folly of Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat, a monk, shaman and mystic of Hinduism and Buddhism. Untrained in sculpture, Sulilat and his students created more than two-hundred cement statues filled with cryptic symbols of horror and fantasy. Watch out for the skeleton thin Buddhas, a giant pumpkin with a demon head, a gigantic forty-metre-long reclining Buddha, or a statue of Shiva waving his menacing eight arms of swords! Located on the fringes of the park are some food and drink shops, where you can pick up a picnic lunch to eat by the banks of the river before heading back to the hotel.
