Since its opening in December 2011, Angsana Balaclava Mauritius has used solar panels to harness the wonderful year-round sunshine in Mauritius. These solar panels help heat hot water for the hotel. In 2016, the property took the initiative to install an in-house water bottling system. The system is capable of producing around 150 bottles of water per day, be it still or sparkling.
A believer that Earth is often taken granted, Angsana Balaclava Mauritius, together with Guests, Management and Associates, signed a pledge against air pollution. Instead of driving their own vehicles, Guests and Associates alike pledge to use more public transport. Associates also pledged against burning of scraps and garbage, especially in their own villages.
Located in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, le Foyer Père Laval is an orphanage that looks after some 20 boys between the age of 6 to 17. Through the “Feeding Communities” initiative, Angsana Balaclava Mauritius visited the orphanage and delighted the boys with a lunch spread consisting of yummy favourites such as pizza, chicken, and ice cream. Given its heartwarming success, the property looks forward to continue similar initiatives in the future.
Paul van Frank, General Manager of Angsana Balaclava Mauritius, together with the property’s CSR committee members, hosted “Little Cooks” at Oryza Live Kitchen. At the event, ten children between 7 to 12 years old from le Foyer Père Laval orphanage learnt how to make pizzas. After the fun class, a delicious lunch and a guided tour of the resort followed. Through such initiatives, the property hopes to bring joy to the children’s lives and encourage them to follow their ambitions.
In line with the Group’s sustainability goals, Angsana Balaclava Mauritius is proud to introduce their vegetable garden, “Our Kebun”. An initiative championed by the property’s CSR Committee, the garden allows associates to plant and grow their own vegetables and herbs, encouraging a closer relationship between people and the food they consume.
Angsana Balaclava Mauritius is committed to Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts’ brand-wide pledge to reduce and ultimately eliminate single-use plastics from operations. Initiatives include replacing plastic water bottles with glass water bottles (produced in-house) and switching out plastic straws with biodegradable paper straws.
Angsana Balaclava Mauritius welcomes and accommodates children. The Kid’s Corner offers a range of engaging activities for children to take part in such as craft-making, hand painting and educational games.
