The Brickyard Retreat is located near the world famous Great Wall of China, amongst the beautiful vegetation of Beigou Village. Just a short drive from the Beijing Capital International Airport, the hotel is easily accessible to people from around the world with many sights to explore near the hotel like Ming Tombs, Beijing Downtown, Yanqi Lake Scenic Area, Shengquan Temple, and many more.

The hotel offers facilities for guests to enjoy including free wireless internet throughout. There is also a den built with a wood-burning fireplace within the Lodge where guests are welcome to curl up with a book from the collection provided. A separate card and cigar room with a Mahjong table is available for guests to use and this is the only indoor space where smoking is allowed as there is a ventilation system in the room. A video and game room can be found with a large selection of movies, cartoons and games for guests to use and relax. The hotel has a kitchen garden which is a sunken Petanque Terrain for guests of all ages to play this traditional French sport. A playground with swings and a sandbox in the far corner is provided for children to play in with comfortable chairs around the gardens in the quiet corners.
The hotel offers 25 rooms and suites for guests to stay in that are all open to vistas of the Great Wall and it also offers 11 vacation homes with 2 to 5 bedrooms to choose from, created from village homes. All the rooms are close to nature and provide breath taking views of the Great Wall.

The Lodge is a repurposed original building which contains a café, den and bar for guests to dine in. Guests can choose to dine either indoors our outdoors on the terrace in the main courtyard with breath taking views during the day and is softly lit at night. You will have the opportunity to taste complimentary fresh ground Yunnan coffee and teas along with homemade cookies which are offered in the afternoon. Experience food from China and around the world from a la carte menus that have options available for vegetarians, vegans, celiac, and people with other food preferences and requirements. Dine at breakfast to enjoy daily baked products, scrambled and fried eggs, smoked bacon and sausages, or choose from the all day menu which includes salads, sandwiches, steaks, masala chicken wings, homemade spaghetti and much more.
The Brickyard Retreat offers a number of activities on site for guests staying at the hotel which include: dragon dancing, expert guided hikes, martial arts class, yoga class, noodle-making class, team cooking session, kite-making class and many more.
For those looking for a trip full of culture and history, the Mutianyu Great Wall is the perfect place to visit. This wall is one of the best-preserved and well known Great Wall sections, located to the north of Beijing and has breath taking scenery. This particular wall has a smaller amount of tourists than other sections so there is less of a crowd along the wall. There are watchtowers distributed along the Great Wall which include Zhengguan Terrace, three hollow watchtowers, and Big Corner Tower. Along the tower you will be surrounded by beautiful scenery as there are woods covering 96% of the total scenic area with flowers blooming in the Spring, green grass on the hillside in Summer, trees laden with sweet fruit in Autumn, and snow covering the wall in Winter.
The Forbidden City, located in Beijing, used to be the Chinese imperial palace during the Ming and the Qing Dynasties; the city is the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world, as listed by UNESCO, and declared as a World Heritage Site in 1987. Visitors will be able to see the imperial living and governing quarters, valuable artworks and traditional gardens by entering through the Tian’anmen, “Gate of Heavenly Peace”, and will enter the Meridian Gate to see the palace. There are tours available to explore the Forbidden City which include a 1-day Beijing Highlights Tour to visit the city and the Great Wall at your own pace, or the 4-day Emperor’s Tour of Beijing which is designed to be flexible without missing out on the must-sees.
Take a trip to Jingshan Park, located across from the exit of the Forbidden City which it used to be a part of until the walls were pulled down and a road cut through it in the 1900s: several gates and buildings were destroyed in the process. Visitors can see the artificial hill, the highest point in the city, at which you can see a temple at the top and the Pavilion of Everlasting Spring. It is an easy climb up to the Pavilion but there are many steps involved to get there but it offers stunning panoramic views of the Forbidden City and Beijing below.
Brickyard Retreat at Mutianyu Wall is part of the 2049 group which focuses on investing and developing the local community, Beigou Village, into a tourist destination and helping to sustain it. This same concept is also applied to the design of the venues within the hotel, the food served, and their operating practices; the venues at the hotel are based on existing footprints, they preserve whenever they can, “employing used building materials, and adopting efficient design materials”.
The food served at the lodge and other dining venues are all homemade from scratch and 80% of the ingredients used are sourced from local suppliers; the coffee guests can order is grown and specially roasted in Yunnan for the hotel. The hotel also composts any organic waste and recycle whenever they can as well as being committed to conserving energy, water and waste. The straws are made from paper which has less of a negative impact on the environment, all of the lodgings are supplied with all-natural Shangrila bath products, and the hotel rooms come with handmade straw sandals for guests to take home.
