Sibuya Game Reserve, South Africa

Malaria-free Sibuya Game Reserve is an eco-destination which is positioned on the Sunshine Coast of the Eastern Cape, approximately 130 kms from Port Elizabeth or East London. Guests are welcomed at Sibuya’s Reception which is situated near the Kariega River mouth in the small seaside town of Kenton-on-Sea, where safe parking is provided. The adventure starts with a gentle meandering 11km boat transfer from the River mouth and Kenton’s idyllic Blue Flag beaches, up the stunning Kariega River Estuary to the Reserve, setting the tone for the unique experience to follow – from the Ocean to the Bush.

Sibuya Game Reserve incorporates the unique East Cape Valley Bushveld, Grasslands and Coastal Forests. Antelope abound, including the rare Bontebok and Oribi. Elephants, Giraffe and Zebra silhouetted against an Indian Ocean backdrop complete a truly memorable picture. Here is just an overview of the activities available

This stylish bush destination, which mushrooms from an indigenous forested valley, is a classic thatched Lodge built with all the luxury and modern amenities to match. At this stunning venue, guests are shown to their luxury accommodation & then have a delicious buffet-style lunch in the main Lodge or on one of the expansive decks. All meals are buffet-style. We pride ourselves on fresh, unpretentious and tasty meals with an African twist. If notified before arrival, every effort is made to cater for dietary requirements.

Arrival Information

Please ensure Check in by 11H30 – Late arrivals will incur the cost of a private transfer charged locally.

Scheduled boat transfers leave from Sibuya’s reception in Kenton-on-Sea, once daily, at 12h00 (noon). Guests are requested to check in at reception (39 Eastbourne Road, Kenton-on-Sea) at least half an hour before the boat departure time (travel times: PE airport allow 80-100 mins – EL airport allow 120mins) For departing guests, scheduled boat transfers return to reception at 11h00 daily to allow for check out and departure by 11h30. Boat transfers at alternative times may be arranged in advance at an additional charge.

Packing Suggestions

Due to the steps to the jetties and boat transfers to and from the camps, we recommend where possible, guests pack a small travel bag for the duration of their stay and leave large suitcases in their car at reception. A rain jacket, jersey and long trousers are recommended even in summer. A good pair of binoculars is recommended. Sunblock is essential, preferably waterproof for swimming or water-sports. A bathing costume for swimming in the warm Kariega River or in the nearby Indian Ocean.

Bush Lodge Sleeper Suites

The stunningly appointed units are private, spacious and have a fully en-suite bathroom – with outside and inside showers and surrounding private viewing decks. Each suite has a tea/coffee station and for hot summer nights, air-conditioning. A wood-burning fireplace adds a cosy touch for the cooler winter evenings. Comfortable King-size or Queen-size beds with fine crisp white linen ensure a wonderful restful night. Divans are available for children sharing with their parents.Bush Lodge welcomes children over the age of 12 Bush Lodge is on the main electrical grid, so for those guests wanting a little more luxury and comfort in the way of electrical appliances, than our tented Eco-Destination Solar-powered River and Forest Camps, this is the ideal alternative.

Rhino Conservation Levy

In March 2016, Sibuya suffered a horrific poaching attack and three of our rhino were slaughtered and their horns removed despite the best efforts of our Anti-Poaching Unit. We cannot offer a true Big5 experience without Rhino so by necessity have to dramatically increase our protective capabilities to protect these magnificent animals. We ask all our guests to please partner with us in this effort to protect our rhino and the species as a whole.

Refill Water Bottles

At Sibuya actively attempt to limit carbon footprint. As plastic bottles from bottled water constitute one of the largest sources of pollutants in the world today, Sibuya actively discourage their use whilst resident with us. All guests are issued with a reusable “Sibuya” bottle and are asked that they support us in Sibuya’s quest to reduce pollution and our carbon footprint by refilling these bottles with purified spring water rather than using the disposable commercial bottles of water.
