Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp

Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp is situated in a private 7608-acre conservancy which borders the Maasai Mara and the Serengeti. Owned and managed by the Cottar family, the camp is luxurious with 1920s touches of glamour, yet still feels like an authentic safari camp. Warmly lit ‘mess areas’ offer the perfect place for guests to enjoy a drink or meal with the other guests and form new friendships through your shared safari experience.
The camp only accommodates 28 guests when at capacity, add on to this the location in a private conservancy and you have a camp which is intimate and exclusive. The tents come complete with large, comfortable beds, vintage furniture, and their own private veranda where guests can spend the evening relaxing and marvelling at the pristine nature and rolling hills rising from the horizon. Explore the Cottar’s conservancy on a game drive or on foot keep[ing your eyes peeled for lions, hyenas, elephants, giraffes and cheetah.

Chinzombo

Named after a type of tree which grows nearby, Time + Tide Chinzombo’s natural building materials and vintage accents combine modern style with a traditional bush safari camp. The six spacious safari tents (including one two-bedroom, two-bathroom family tent) sit underneath ancient msikzi trees, evoking a sense of time travel back into the past. Each one comes with a private pool and soaking tub, with panoramic views over the river and its widespread wildlife. Relax on your verandah overlooking a meandering curve of the Luangwa River and let the local hippos lull you to sleep. Wake up with the majestic elephant just outside your villa. The award-winning design of the luxury safari tents features natural elements such as canvas, timber and reed, accented with leather and raw linen. The tents stretch out onto a verandah where you can enjoy the afternoon in the shade or rejuvenate your body with an in-room spa treatment.

Chisa Busanga Camp

Chisa Busanga Camp lies within the northern part of Kafue National Park, where travellers can view the sweeping grasslands and wetlands of the Busanga Plains. The camp consists of four ‘nests’, woven elevated structures that mimic the nests of the weaver bird, often seen in trees in the surrounding area. The nests are built on legs, allowing stunning views of the plains and passing herds of wildlife, with lantern-lit stairs leading up to them (one of the nests also has a lift). Inside, the nests are fitted with wooden decks, with canvas to keep guests comfortable no matter the weather, and Chisa Busanga Camp is fully powered by solar, as are the camp’s safari vehicles which make no noise while exploring the wilderness of the Kafue National Park, preventing wildlife from being startled while also keeping carbon emissions to a minimum.

Mandrare River Camp

Mandrare River Camp rests in the south of Madagascar, nestled amongst the spiny forests held sacred by the Antandroy Tribe. The camp overlooks a beautiful and diverse landscape, carved through by the Mandrare River. Due to the lack of predator species in this part of the world, guests can enjoy incredible wildlife viewing and birdwatching, and get up close to the wildlife of the forest such as Madagascar’s famous ring-tailed lemurs. Mandrare River Camp features seven spacious tented suites with en-suite facilities and a large outdoor terrace for admiring the sweeping views in a tranquil and secluded setting.

Shawa Luangwa Camp

Shawa Luangwa Camp rests on the eastern bank of the Luangwa River, overlooking the sweeping landscape of the South Luangwa National Park. Here, guests can cross the tranquil river waters on a boat or pontoon, explore the wilderness on exciting game drives and immerse themselves in the beauty of the pristine natural sanctuary. This seasonal camp was inspired by Jacob Shawa, an incredible guide who grew up in the Luangwa Valley and shares a passion for the wildlife and scenery that exists here.
Open from April 15th until November 15th, Shawa Luangwa consists of five luxurious tented rooms with twin and double beds, and two of the tents can be converted into a spacious family suite. Guests can take advantage of the different morning and evening activities and spend the time in between relaxing in the soothing plunge pool, or listening to the gentle melodies of South Luangwa’s many different bird species.
