This scorching hot town in the Afar Depression of Ethiopia holds the record for having the highest average annual temperature ever recorded with day time temperatures regularly reaching an average of 100 degrees!
2. Coldest Inhabited Place on Earth: Oymyakon, Russia
Winter temperatures in Oymyakon, Russia average a chilling minus 50C. Inhabitants cannot even wear glasses outside during the winter for fear of them sticking to their faces!
3. Darkest: Nordkapp, Norway
Nordkapp is referred to as the Northern most inhabited point in Europe and although the ‘Land of the Midnight Sun’ enjoys very long daylight hours in the summer, during the winter it can stay dark for months at a time! The sun does not rise above the horizon between mid November and the end of January.

There is no airport on the island so the only way to reach this remote destination is a 6 day boat ride from Cape Town in South Africa!
