Activities

Jeep Safari: A wandering soul, nature lover, history junkie or even a foodie, the Garh offers an array of engaging activities to choose from. Explore the desert in its myriad hues and get a glimpse into the lives of its inhabitants- the Rabaris, traditionally nomads, who came to settle in semi-nomadic ways on the outskirts of villages and small towns. Head out for an invigorating drive into the countryside and experience the breath-taking view of the salt water pan shimmering under the desert sun. The site is also the habitat for several migratory birds and is an ideal spot for budding ornithologists. The drive also offers a glimpse into the Rabari settlements. Called Dhanis or nomads, members of this sheep-herding community can be spotted from afar due to their bright red turbans. The safari is also an ideal picnic spot with tea & snacks served at the site at sunset. The excursion is on separate payment.

Heritage Walk: Explore the enchanting lives of the Royals without even leaving the grounds of the Garh as the head of the family, Thakur Ajeet Singh ji of Chanoud takes you through the 300-year-old history of the family and the property. This complimentary tour, replete with tales of yore, includes a visit to the family museum and the durbar (main hall) which houses an extensive collection of fascinating antiques.

Villiage Walk: Chanoudgarh Unlike most villages in Rajasthan today, Chanoud village has not yet fallen prey to rampant commercialisation and retains its traditional charm. A retired headmaster from the local school takes you for the walk, which weaves its way through historical temples, the local school, and the shops of artisans who continue to make each item by hand, following in the footsteps of their ancestors. On the way, you might spot the Rabaris, known for their vibrant dress, jewellery and crafts.

Hotel Dining

Bearing testimony to generations of master cooks who diligently followed culinary traditions in the kitchens of the Garh, Chanoudgarh honours the traditional cuisine of Rajasthan while adapting it to modern palette. Inspired by Rajasthani, Marwari and central Indian cuisine, each meal is painstakingly prepared in the traditional kitchens of the palace, where every ingredient – including the wheat and pulses are sourced from our organic farm and our dairy farm even provides the milk! Thakurani Sahiba Marudhar Kumari of Chanoud presides over her kitchen in person, taking special care that the spiciness of each dish is carefully adjusted, giving our guests the option of choosing non-spicy meals. Guests are offered a variety of dining locations spread throughout the property.

Moti Mahal

Encompassing the serenity of a pearl, our main dining hall is one of the most stunning rooms in the Garh. Though airconditioned and fitted with modern amenities, the hall retains the original paintwork that was done by hand, using vegetable dyes. Soak in the view from one of the jharokhas, the hallmark of Rajasthani architecture, as you enjoy your breakfast and lunch here.

Badal Mahal

Inspired by the clouds beneath which it stands, this is the rooftop terrace where dinner service is held under the cool night sky in the summer. The terrace offers a panoramic view of the village which our guests can enjoy while feasting under a blanket of shimmering stars.

Mor Chownk

The National bird of the country, the Peacocks, are the oldest residents of the Garh. The unique beauty of this bird inspired the name for our winter dinner service location. Built like a house in the village with mud walls and local artisanal drawings on the walls, Mor Chownk is an ideal location for dinner by a bonfire on cold winter nights.

Hawa Mahal

In the evening, as the vermilion sun sets in the horizon, enjoy the spectacular view from our Hawa Mahal as you sip a cup of tea and partake of your evening snacks.
