Amanzi Camp

Located on the riverbanks of the Zambezi River, in the diverse wilderness of the Lower Zambezi National Park lies Amanzi Camp. This camp is exclusive and private, nestled in amongst trees, allowing guests an authentic, private, and unique stay in the heart of nature. With only 4 traditional safari tents, guests can enjoy the peace and quiet with only bird song and sounds of flowing water filling the air. A unique verandah at the end of the tents offers the perfect space to unwind and relax in hanging chairs, gazing out over the vast Zambezi. A comfortable main area is where dinner is served, and guests can grab a drink from the bar and watch as the sun sets, gazing through the open sides, over the stunning vista. Connection and immersion within nature is a key theme of the activities on offer, from game drives and walking safaris to canoeing along the gentle waters of the river; each activity will place you in the centre of nature.

Old Mondoro Camp

Old Mondoro is set in a grove of Acacia trees that tower above the massive elephant bulls that seem to be constantly feeding on them. On the banks of the Zambezi River in the Lower Zambezi National Park some 35 km downstream from Chiawa Camp this is a beautiful and remote site overlooking a maze of hippo-inhabited islands and channels. With only 5 rooms, 10 beds, Old Mondoro is the Lower Zambezi’s most intimate and private safari camp. Old Mondoro’s setting is exquisite, one of the few safari camps with views in all directions, from one’s chair – to the south the spectacular Zambezi river and its islands sprinkled with wildlife, swivel around to face north and see beautiful woodland full of towering trees dwarfing the impalas, waterbuck, buffalo and elephants. A fun addition is Old Mondoro’s outdoor “loo with a view” overlooking the Zambezi and its wildlife. If you wish to be truly immersed in nature but with all the comforts then look no further than Old Mondoro.

Chongwe River Camp

Surrounded by pristine wildlife is Chongwe River Camp. Sat on the edge of both the Zambezi River and Chongwe River the camp is authentic and luxurious, exuding a sense of peace and exclusivity with only 9 safari tents. The tents are comfortable and spacious, filled with bright natural light and with unparalleled river views of the sparkling Chongwe. Enjoy freshly prepared and local food in the bush, and an authentic sundowner experience around the crackling fire pit. Guests can explore the surroundings on an exciting game drive or boat safari, or a gentle canoe down the calm water of the river. In such a stunning environment there is something for everyone, and guests will leave having made memories which will last a lifetime.

Chamilandu Bushcamp

Chamilandu is a magnificent camp on one of the South Luangwa’s ultimate river locations, perfect for a panoramic view of the wildlife that the river and its lagoons hold. There are only three stilted chalets here, allowing guests to experience true serenity on a riverbank beneath a soaring ebony grove. Every chalet has its own raised veranda to relax on during the heat of the day, and an open-fronted en-suite bathroom with the same encapsulating views over the tranquil waters. Two of the chalets are twins (2 queen-sized beds) and one is a double (king-sized bed), making room for just six guests, perfect for small groups. Guests can gaze at thea sunset from the comfort of the thatched bar and dining area, as they watch the wildlife go through their evening routines.

Chindeni Bushcamp

Located in an enviable location on the shores of a wildlife-infested lagoon is Chindeni, one of the most beautiful tented camps in the South Luangwa region. Sleeping in the wilds under canvas ignites a sense of adventure in everyone, and you will find exactly that sense here. That thrill is not at the expense of style and comfort, plenty of which is found in each of the four opulent tents. Your private veranda offers a sensational view of the lagoon, which attracts birds and animals from miles around. Feel free to settle back anytime with a gin-and-tonic in the central lounge and dining area, an elegant expanse of varnished decking arranged on several levels around the surrounding ebony trees. Again, this boasts the same spectacular view of the serene lagoon and its inhabitants.

Island Bush Camp

Island Bush Camp is owned and operated by Ron & Anke Cowan, along with sister property Kafunta River Lodge located in the main Mfuwe area. Island Bush Camp is 2 1/2 hours drive south of Kafunta River Lodge (so about 3 1/2 hours from Mfuwe airport) in a very remote yet extremely game-rich area of the southern section of the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia. It is in this complete solitude, far away from other crowds, that walking safaris are taking place in the mornings and afternoons. This seasonal, intimate camp lies under a grove of Mahogany trees, right on the banks of the Luangwa River. Island Bush Camp offers authentic bush accommodation in five elevated reed huts, with bucket showers and running water. The huts are open sided with a private verandah overlooking the Luangwa River. The camp runs on solar and paraffin lights, charging facilities are offered via inverters.

Mwamba Bush Camp

Set on the banks of the Mwamba River, a tributary of the Luangwa, the camp, sited under huge evergreen ebony trees, enjoys shady views of perennial water-holes, both of which have hides perched over them for fantastic photographic opportunities or simply quiet times viewing the animals. Mwamba Bush Camp takes only 8 guests in 4 reed and thatch chalets, uniquely designed with two soaring skylights (protected by mosquito gauze) set into the roof allowing you to experience sleeping under the stars. The nights at Mwamba are filled with wildlife action. Bats and owls (Pearl spotted and Scops in particular) set up the background sounds together with whirring cicadas. Puku and Impala alarm calls are often followed by the grunt of a leopard or whoop of a hyena as they pass through camp. Elephants are never far away and are especially fond of the tamarind and ebony fruit within the camp. There are two resident hippo in the waterholes that graze on the river bank at night, completing the picture. The game around Mwamba is excellent; large herds of buffalo, zebra, eland and in particular Cookson’s wildebeest (one of the last herds in the SLNP are found on the plains and in the Mopane/Crocodile bark woodlands close to camp). They are followed by the “Mwamba” lion pride.

Kuyenda Bushcamp

Kuyenda’s four chalets, set beneath large trees by the Manzi River, combine rustic elegance with classic bush style – reed and thatch rondavels overlooking the grassy plain, and a cosy lounge and dining area. When combined with the unequalled hospitality of Phil and Babette, who run the camp, this camp’s simple beauty calls you back again and again.

Lion Camp

Lion Camp is an intimate, privately owned safari lodge in one of the best safari locations in Zambia – South Luangwa National Park. It is built on the edge of an oxbow lagoon which attracts a wide variety of wildlife. Game viewing in and around camp is spectacular with lions, leopards, wild dogs, large herds of elephant and buffalo. The camp sees the highest concentration of hippo in Africa, incredible bird viewing, and plentiful sightings of the unique Thornicroft’s Giraffe, Cookson’s Wildebeest and Crawshay’s Zebra. Walking safaris and game drives at Lion Camp are expertly led by some of South Luangwa’s best guides. All of Lion Camp’s 10 luxurious timber, canvas and thatch suites have been designed to maximise the magnificent views. Each suite has a private deck looking over the plain where plenty of wildlife pass offering game viewing throughout the day.
