Flatdogs Camp

Flatdogs camp offers a blend of unique accommodations beside the South Luangwa National Park. From an opulent two bed-roomed tented house with private pool, to the wilder Jackalberry Treehouse built on platforms around four live Ebony trees, over-looking a game rich waterhole. The Chalet Suites are perfect for families and the Luxury Tents are spread out along the riverbank – offering the “Africa under canvas” experience – with elephant browsing around them and hippo grazing just outside. Chindeni Bushcamp

Located in an enviable location on the shores of a wildlife-infested lagoon is Chindeni, one of the most beautiful tented camps in the South Luangwa region. Sleeping in the wilds under canvas ignites a sense of adventure in everyone, and you will find exactly that sense here. That thrill is not at the expense of style and comfort, plenty of which is found in each of the four opulent tents. Your private veranda offers a sensational view of the lagoon, which attracts birds and animals from miles around. Feel free to settle back anytime with a gin-and-tonic in the central lounge and dining area, an elegant expanse of varnished decking arranged on several levels around the surrounding ebony trees. Again, this boasts the same spectacular view of the serene lagoon and its inhabitants.

Island Bush Camp

Island Bush Camp is owned and operated by Ron & Anke Cowan, along with sister property Kafunta River Lodge located in the main Mfuwe area. Island Bush Camp is 2 1/2 hours drive south of Kafunta River Lodge (so about 3 1/2 hours from Mfuwe airport) in a very remote yet extremely game-rich area of the southern section of the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia. It is in this complete solitude, far away from other crowds, that walking safaris are taking place in the mornings and afternoons. This seasonal, intimate camp lies under a grove of Mahogany trees, right on the banks of the Luangwa River. Island Bush Camp offers authentic bush accommodation in five elevated reed huts, with bucket showers and running water. The huts are open sided with a private verandah overlooking the Luangwa River. The camp runs on solar and paraffin lights, charging facilities are offered via inverters.

Kafunta River Lodge

Kafunta River Lodge is a classic Zambian safari lodge, combining all the essentials for a great safari, located on the floodplains of the Luangwa River, away from the busier area near the park’s Mfuwe gate. During the peak season the lodge accesses the national park via its own pontoon. The lodge was fully renovated in 2019 and offers a relaxed atmosphere with great attention to detail. Made up of just ten charming chalets, the lodge also boasts a spacious bar and dining area at the heart of the retreat – where delicious cuisine is utterly enjoyed. Built around a semi-evergreen wild mango tree, the chalets and main lodge are thatched in the traditional style, all offering superb panoramic views over the Luangwa River and the South Luangwa National Park. Adjacent to the bar is a refreshing infinity pool and the only natural hot spring tub in the Luangwa Valley.

Kaingo Camp

Overlooking the Luangwa River deep within the prime area of the South Luangwa National Park, Kaingo Camp offers endless beauty renowned for game viewing, providing guests with a safari journey they’ll never forget. Everything at Kaingo has been handpicked by the Shenton family, from the camps stylish design and practical layout to the choice of scrumptious, local produce grown on the Shenton Plot. The opulent, open-sided sitting room at the heart of the camp includes a dining area, library and Kaingo’s renowned thousand-year-old lead-wood bar. Each chalet boasts a stunning outdoor bathtub with cool, shady views of the spectacular vistas. A special feature of Kaingo is the unique individual decks built out over the river in front of each chalet. From this relaxing vantage point guests can view game coming down to drink, basking hippos, aquatic birds, crocodiles fishing, and daily elephant crossings.

Three Rivers Camp

Three Rivers Camp is solar powered camp that gracefully resides under a canopy of mature sausage trees. The luxury tents face open plains around either the impressive Luangwa River or spectacular game-rich lagoons. The area is teeming with wildlife including big herds of elephant and buffalo, giraffe, antelope, wild dog and much more. Three Rivers guarantees a truly, private safari in a pristine area of the Luangwa Valley. The camp includes five spacious, elegant tents, each built on elevated platforms to provide exceptional views of the surrounding area’s busy wildlife, with exclusive sleep-out decks for the option of a night under the African sky. This seasonal camp offers both game drives and guided bush walk experiences. Guests can expect fresh, scrumptious brunch buffets, afternoon cakes and biscuits, and candlelit dinners. Mwamba Bush Camp

Set on the banks of the Mwamba River, a tributary of the Luangwa, the camp, sited under huge evergreen ebony trees, enjoys shady views of perennial water-holes, both of which have hides perched over them for fantastic photographic opportunities or simply quiet times viewing the animals. Mwamba Bush Camp takes only 8 guests in 4 reed and thatch chalets, uniquely designed with two soaring skylights (protected by mosquito gauze) set into the roof allowing you to experience sleeping under the stars. The nights at Mwamba are filled with wildlife action. Bats and owls (Pearl spotted and Scops in particular) set up the background sounds together with whirring cicadas. Puku and Impala alarm calls are often followed by the grunt of a leopard or whoop of a hyena as they pass through camp. Elephants are never far away and are especially fond of the tamarind and ebony fruit within the camp. There are two resident hippo in the waterholes that graze on the river bank at night, completing the picture. The game around Mwamba is excellent; large herds of buffalo, zebra, eland and in particular Cookson’s wildebeest (one of the last herds in the SLNP are found on the plains and in the Mopane/Crocodile bark woodlands close to camp). They are followed by the “Mwamba” lion pride.

Gorges Camp and Little Gorges

Gorges Camp and Little Gorges lie at the edge of the Batoka Gorge, just a 30-minute drive from Victoria Falls town. Here, guests can enjoy a relaxing stay, surrounded by the ground’s beautiful landscaped garden and the exquisite views of the Batoka Gorge which can be admired from your private verandah, or from the cooling waters of the swimming pool. The two camps are positioned side-by-side, overlooking the rushing waters of the Zambezi River as it makes its way to the basaltic plateau of Victoria Falls. Gorges Camp and Little Gorges enjoy a tranquil atmosphere away from the vibrant Victoria Falls town, meaning that guests can enjoy a soothing and secluded environment with stunning views, but the town is still easy to access for exciting activities such as white water rafting and tours of the local area. Gorges Camp offers a luxurious experience, where guests can stay in a comfortable thatched chalet with private balconies, whereas Little Gorge gives guests a more authentic bush camping experience where you can get close to nature and witness the thrills of safari up close.

Mpala Jena Camp

Mpala Jena Camp lies within a private concession in Zambezi National Park. Mpala Jena means ‘White Impala’ and according to the local National Park rangers, at the time when the Zambezi National Park was separated from the Victoria Falls National Park and declared a National Park in its own right in 1979, there had been regular sightings of a white albino impala along the river in this area. The Zambezi National Park and Victoria Falls National Park over a total of 56,000 hectares and are home to a number of wildlife species including huge concentrations of buffalo and elephants, as well as antelopes, elands, zebras, giraffes, kudus, waterbucks, lions and leopards. Mpala Jena Camp overlooks the stunning Zambezi River, with three guest tents and two family tents positioned along its shore, under the shade of the riverine trees. The camp has easy access to Victoria Falls but enjoys a tranquil and secluded setting away from the vibrant town, offering a peaceful and private safari experience.

Old Drift Lodge

Old Drift Lodge stands within Zambezi National Park, surrounded by 56,000 hectares of untouched natural beauty. The lodge overlooks the mighty Zambezi River and is just upstream from Victoria Falls – one of the seven wonders of the world and the largest waterfall. Travellers can enjoy the stunning panoramic views from the lodge’s main deck which can be accessed via a wooden pathway, with elegant handrails and lit with the gentle glow of a dozen lanterns. Snuggle up around the fire pit at the cosy outdoor seating area, and enjoy the sounds of nearby wildlife as hippos snort and grunt from the river.
